This long weekend we had a dedication for the garden. We are excited with the new season and also, because this saturday 9th, we will have an Open Day, part of Urban Agricultural Monh, come and join us!.
This weekend, we said bye to the greenhouse, thanks to this mobile structured we were able to grow our seedlings. Also this structure survived the month of high winds we got at the beggining of spring, winds between 60-100km, we are extreemly grateful to the modern materials and the hard rubbish that became our tresure to set this space during winter.
Now, we reclaimed that corner for the tomatoes. That space was used before for Karen and got the best results for big tomatoes and have been resting -alredy- half a year. We took the structured out, we resoiled, added awesome cow's poo, added extra soil, compost, and then planted our 12 -homegrown- tomatoes seedling.
Now, you have to come to the garden to see the final result!!
Tomatoes are planted and waiting for your visit on saturday!.
Other adition to the garden: A tippie Tale. Karen had a big brocken deck umbrella and she took the time this weekend to unassembled it,get the small steaks outside the structure, cutted and transformed into a " beans tippie". Looks amazing in the garden! Here the picture of the moment we tried.
ALSO, This weekend we added two practical arches Karen designed for the garden last year, and this year we are reusing them.
I still remember the big pumpinks growing on top. This year won't be different because the pumpinks are planted, ready to climb the structure.
We also replanted the raising veggie beds, taking out the brassicas; they were such a solid plants, they went to the compost as they season finished. Now, insted, we have lettuces, dill, spring onion, was growing in poly boxes,we transplanted them to this space, another reason to come and get surprised on saturday, not showing yet the final result, this picture if how it looked before we clean the space today.
And from the poly boxes to the soil, was the time of the cucumber, they are still adapiting to the change, lots of them have flowers and fruit, they grew too fast in the poly boxes, faster our transition to the summer season.
We also got some dhalias for the soul and I finished transplanting all the cosmos and carnation that was growing on the poly boxes. As you can tell, we grow lots of things in the poly boxes, so we manage better the moisture, the temperature and pests.
Every time I worked in the garden I learned, this is an art, a profession, a lifestyle. Requieres time, energy, dedication, planification, and overall, attention, love and care.
One year ago, I was by the beach, paddleboarding and snorkelling, watching the alguies to move and looking for fishies. By then, I did have a disfunctional garden, in a wind corredor, on side of the building I was living in, not many things grew there, all concrete, shady, cold and windy... "beach windy", some places are just with no life force.
This year, I moved from the beach to the inner suburbs, because nothing can compete with space. This year I garden for real, and I am empowered of my food system creating a bond with every plant, seed, flower we sow. I have been feeding and feeling in my cells cycles of nature, cycles of the moon and the sun.
Because nature always win, I am more connected with my core than ever. I am experiencing aligment of mind, body, soul. I am expanding my roots, settle in the soil, I have prepared the last four years living in Kulin Nation.
Let's keep gardening to change the world!
Join us to the open day on saturday!
See you on Saturday NOV 9th!
Greetings,
Ninna
